While we know technology is changing how automakers design their vehicles, imagine how technology is being used in the development of our roads. In fact, it is shaping up that “smart” roads will appear long before autonomous cars take to the streets, providing connected services that are not possible even with V2V technologies being proposed. We are moving quickly from the laboratory stages, and into the implementation phase.
Successful application of advanced connected technologies in tomorrow’s roads will be possible only through close collaboration between municipalities, learning institutions and competing companies representing the automotive and technology industries. Let’s watch this latest experiment in Michigan and see what happens if everyone plays nice together.
