The International Consumer Electronics Show is widely known as the largest technology trade show in the world, attracting over 3,600 exhibitors and more than 160,000 attendees each year. CES is also the place where automakers have recently been introducing and promoting their most innovative in-car technologies. So it is quite an achievement to be named the official vehicle of CES among such steep competition. Even more so if the winning vehicle is a truck.
Ford Motor Company issued an announcement of the 2015 F-150 truck being chosen as the official vehicle of this year’s upcoming CES. Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (and producer of CES), said, “With state-of-the-art technologies, driver-assist features and dramatic improvement in weight savings, the 2015 F-150 delivers the type of connectivity, efficiency and performance that tech-savvy consumers demand in their vehicles.”
We couldn’t agree more. As we reported immediately after driving the 2015 F-150, Ford’s technology gamble with their crown-jewel of trucks paid off. The infotainment, driver assists and safety advancements were on full display alongside the new aluminum alloy body and box as well as the lightweight, torque-heavy 2.7L and 3.5L Ecoboost engines, all contributing to a collective platform that chief engineer Pete Reyes says is “setting up the next 10 years” of Ford truck development.
Ford is also demonstrating a welcome trend among other automakers offering advanced safety and driver assist technologies that are available only for flagship vehicles or strictly bundled within step-up trim levels. We believe this practice ought to be expanded throughout the auto industry, and Ford is to be commended here.
Every year at the Consumer Electronics Show, we are treated to the world’s newest advancements in technology, connectivity and functionality. Congratulations, Ford, on taking the risks necessary to drive innovation and on being recognized by CES for your efforts. Knowing what we do about the 2015 F-150, we think more awards will be coming.
